First look: The Yellow Diamond

1 Mins read

YellowDiamond_firstlook_02Here’s a surprise. Andrew Martin is back with a new novel, but it doesn’t involve trains, and Jim Stringer is nowhere to be found. The author has swapped those topics for a new idea that he’s come up with, and The Yellow Diamond focuses on the life and crimes of the super-rich living in the extremely affluent London neighbourhood of Mayfair.

Champagne. Lambourghinis. Expensive suits. That’s just the start of it. Here, DI Blake Reynolds is drawn into a case involving rich Russians living in London. What starts off looking like a jewellery heist turns into a murder conspiracy. Reynolds is new in the area and just learning to cope with how his predecessor did things, and his new assistant. Plus there’s the distraction of the beautiful Anna, who might just be involved. Two worlds collide as Reynolds rubs shoulders with the mega-wealthy – made sick by their decadence on the one hand, and in awe of it on the other.

Here’s the blurb…

“Reynolds stopped and looked at some diamond-encrusted watches in the window of Cartier. He was joined by a futuristic-looking Japanese woman, who might actually be able to afford what was in the window. Reynolds turned away… and saw a Person of Interest. The Person of Interest was looking into the window of the jewellers over the road, while taking a long time about lighting a cigarette. He wore the slicked-back hair popular in New Bond Street and his coat was over his shoulders: mafioso was probably the intended effect. The man was looking at a diamond necklace that had an entire small display window to itself. The doorman stationed outside did not look at the man, but he had an earpiece in his ear and a microphone on his lapel, through which he now spoke to someone in the shop…”

We’ve got an interview with Andrew Martin on the way, and a review of The Yellow Diamond too. You can pre-order The Yellow Diamond for £7.99 for Kindle, and £11.99 as a hardback.
