This excellent debut is not the work of a novice writer, but of an experienced and established journalist. A clever combination of police procedural and psychologocal thriller, it begins with a scene that will chill every parent’s soul to its core. One momentary lapse of concentration by a young mother, and a little boy lies dead in the road, the victim of a hit and run driver. While the police try to track down the killer driver, Jenna Gray attempts to rebuild her life by moving far away from the scene of the death. Initially her efforts are successful, but then fate takes her fragile new life and dashes it against the rocks. It has been a huge seller for Clare Mackintosh and you can find out why here.
