Just a short post so that you can take a gander at the latest novel from Michael Connelly. Nightshade is a new direction for the author, leaving behind the streets of Los Angeles and his A-list crime fiction characters Harry Bosch, Mickey Haller and Renee Ballard.

Instead, we’re off to nearby Santa Catalina Island where we meet Detective Stilwell. The island is still part of Los Angeles County, lying about 50 miles south in the Pacific. It’s a sleepy place, or so you’d think, but when a body is found wrapped in plastic and weighted down in the harbour, the skills Stilwell developed working homicide will come in handy.

With organised crime and gangland killings, the streets of LA are rough. Here, it’s the dark secrets of the island that’ll get ya, as Stilwell is set to discover. Nightshade goes on sale 20 May.
