Nothing Important Happened Today

Will Carver’s unsparing portrayal of modern society is startlingly original and crime fiction at its most compelling. The People of Choice is a cult that is gripping ordinary, often apparently happy, men and women and compelling them to kill themselves without hesitation and very publicly. They carry a cryptic suicide note and the police are apparently powerless. The story is told from the multiple varying perspectives of the victims, the style flickers and splutters, but it’s always page-turning, with a darkly comic brutal social commentary running throughout. Improbably, it is brilliant and lingers in the memory long after the final page. Read our full review here.
