First look: Arnaldur Indridason starts new series

1 Mins read

What do you think of the cover for this upcoming new release by Icelandic author Arnaldur Indridason? The Shadow District is due out 13 April 2017 and will begin a new series set in and around Reykjavik during World War II, when Iceland was occupied by British and then American forces.

The shadow district was a rough area of Reykjavik behind the country’s National Theatre, and it’s there that a young woman’s body has been found. She’s been strangled and an Icelandic detective pairs with a member of the American military police to track down the brutal killer.

That’s the one plotline. Arnaldur Indridason weaves a second, set in the present. A 90-year-old man is found dead in his bed, smothered with a pillow. Former detective, Konrad, finds newspaper cuttings in the dead man’s house dating back to World War II, and reporting on a crime that Konrad remembers. Guess what – it also took place in the shadow district. It’s up to Konrad to work out why this ghost from the past has returned.

The book is 360 pages, presented in nice, substantial type, and will be available for Kindle and as a hardback on release.

Arnaldur Indridason’s famous character Detective Erlendur has been gripped by several cold cases, and the author loves Icelandic history. The Shadow District begins a new series and we’ll be bringing you an exclusive report on this new book and where the new series will be heading in January. In the meantime, check out the images below and put it on your list!
