The Amazing Test Match Crime

We reviewed Adrian Alington’s 1939 hilarious crime novel during Classics in September 2014 where it landed a five-star rating. A shadowy organisation has hired a gang of thugs to disrupt The British Empire, and they’re going to start with cricket. The Professor, Sawn-off Carlo and Ralph the Disappointment set their eyes on a test match at The Oval and abduct captain Norman Blood. What they don’t count on is the arrival of young fast bowler Joe Prestwick, who’s hoping to make his debut for England and who stumbles upon their plot. If he can save the match, and play in it, he might win the hand of his darling in marriage. Pure comedy in this crime caper. Read our review here.
