A Pleasure and a Calling

The local estate agent working in Home County villages. He’s polite, he smiles, he’ll sell your house, make you a profit and collect his commission. But William Heming is not quite what he seems. While selling dream homes, Mr H also makes sure that he keeps copies of your keys – just so that he can be there for you when your domestic life takes a turn for the worse.

William Heming is certainly big on post-sales service. In fact, you can expect him to take an interest in your life long after the solicitors have completed the conveyancing, and you are busily trying to to turn what was someone else’s house into your own home. Creepy, predatorial, and menacing in turn, Mr H is truly the Estate Agent From Hell. Marina Sofia said the book was “sinister, yet also full of satire, black humour and real sadness.” Her review is here.
