Pulp hitman Quarry, created by Max Allan Collins, is to return in his 11th novel in January with the publication of The Wrong Quarry. The Vietnam vet is unusual among hitmen in that his targets are nearly always other assassins, and the people who hired them. The word on the street is that he’s never killed anybody who’d be missed. In The Wrong Quarry, he comes up against an amateur hitman who’s working in his territory…

In addition, a television programme is in development based on the book. The pilot has already been shot and it stars Stellan Skarsgård and Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus), and was directed by John Hillcoat (The Road, Lawless, The Proposition). It’s expected to hit small screens some time in 2014. Max Allan Collins is no stranger to screen adaptations – his graphic novel The Road to Perdition was turned into an exceptional film by director Sam Mendes.

The last time we featured Max Allan Collins here on Crime Fiction Lover, he had restored and completed the manuscript for Lady, Go Die, the lost Mike Hammer novel by Mickey Spillane. Currently, he’s riding high in the crime charts on Amazon with What Doesn’t Kill Her. The Wrong Quarry will be published by Hard Case Crime and Titan Books, and has a cover by Tyler Jacobson. “The Quarry novels are Hard Case Crime’s longest-running and top-selling series,” says HCC’s Charles Ardai. “We’re thrilled to bring Quarry back for his most riveting mission yet.”
