Last year we introduced you to the Scottish crime fiction author Andrew Raymond, creator of the DI Lomond series set in the Glasgow police. After self-publishing the hit series as eBooks, Andrew signed with Vinci Books, which is publishing them in print and digitally, giving Andrew access to new audiences via bookshops in the UK and around the world.

Now, the four Lomond novels are to be joined by two new additions to the series. Book five is The Long Dark, book six is The Ferryman, and they both come out in print on 26 March. Here’s what to expect, with a few pictures to savour along the way…

The Long Dark sees Lomond rebounding from the death of a colleague, when he’s called in to investigate the murder of a specialist police advisor working with the makers of a famous Scottish detective show. Everyone seemed to like Jack Beattie but as soon as John Lomond opens the book on him out crawl some nasty wee beasties. Blowing things open could leave some important people more than a little embarrassed…

It’s a similar story in The Ferryman. Lomond is a bit like a Glasgow version of Rebus and isn’t afraid of rocking the boat – even one crossing deadly waters. The Ferryman of the title is the codename for a suspected mole in Police Scotland, giving secrets to organised crime in the city. Lomond is tracking them down, but a fatal shooting in a Govan supermarket changes the game. It was designed to frame Lomond himself as the leak.

Now he’s being hunted by his colleagues as a traitor and the Ferryman is one rocking the boat. We reckon he’ll be hiding out by that loch on the cover and perhaps setting a trap of his own…

So, there’s plenty of new Tartan noir here to sink your teeth into come the end of March. And beyond that, Andrew Raymond has plans to launch a new series with a new detective later in the year. We’ll bring you news of The Long Isle featuring DC Mairead Maclean as soon as we have it.
