Previously a hugely successful self-published thriller author, Andrew Lowe signed with Vinci Books last year and we told you all about Creepy Crawly, the first book in his Jake Sawyer series. And, earlier this year, we introduced you to The Whispering Bones, the first title in his newer Lennox and Blackwood series. Today we’re going to get bang up to date again with Jake Sawyer. On 9 April, you’ll be able to get your hands on the tenth book to feature the Derbyshire detective, Blood Never Sleeps.
Things have heated up for Jake since the chilling first novel in the set. He’s moved to Ibiza and has been trying to reinvent himself a little, and move on from the brutal murder of his mother which has haunted him ever since he was a child. He is meaner and leaner – a martial artist, even – but can the Balearic lifestyle take the edge off him? Probably not.
Things are heating up for someone else too, because the book opens with a man bound up and in a burning building. Perhaps this is what’s depicted so ferociously on the cover – portents of a white-hot mystery inside. We can’t say how the opening scene or cover image link to Sawyer’s return to the North of England, but what we do know is that he moves back when one of his former colleagues is found dead. The powers that be want to file it as a suicide – they always do, especially if there’s something to hide – but Sawyer doesn’t buy it.
Soon, he’s back in Manchester, on the rainy side of the Peak District, which he once called home, and making progress against a trafficking operation. The air is heavy with corruption, and Sawyer is being watched – someone who has something on Sawyer.
