Canadian writer John McFetridge has chosen to centre his new series in Toronto’s thriving film production community. Gordon Stewart works as a location scout, and moonlights as a private detective. He accepts a job to look for a missing family member of one of the production crew, and his investigation leads him into the murky world of undocumented labour and an examination of the growing trend of middle-aged male suicide. A tender romance with Ethel, a bit-part actress in his current production, provides an emotional anchor for the novel and is a real highlight. Read our full review here.
