Nick Petrie’s PTSD-afflicted hero, Peter Ash, a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, takes on the job of finding a missing father and his eight-year-old son. Ash is told the father killed his wife and kidnapped the boy, presumably taking them to the isolated north of Iceland, where he grew up. The dead woman was a computer security expert who discovered hidden files on a prominent Washington, DC, client’s server, but her discovery was detected, and a range of antagonists believe the boy is the key to retrieving their secrets.
