Mads Peder Nordbo goes medieval in Greenland with brutal murders and skinned victims in The Girl Without Skin, which follows tragedy-scarred Danish journalist Matthew Cave. Cave has arrived in the small town of Nuuk, where the body of an ancient viking is discovered at the edge of a glacier. Ritualistically flayed bodies of fresh murder victims begin to pile up soon after, but to connect the stories Nordbo immerses us in the 1970s diary of another Danish expat, Jakob, a murder investigator who desperately tries to save a young girl from harm. Fans of the atmospheric mystery of Miss Smilla’s Feeling for Snow will find similar thrills with this title, which has its own bad-assed, tattooed native girl named Tupaarnaq.
