Charlesgate Confidential

Scott Von Doviak’s debut is the complete package. It has ambition. The narrative is split in to three parts, 1946, 1986, and 2014. There is no shortage of intrigue as ex-cons, students and detectives all try to acquire the missing fruit of an unsolved museum robbery. The author’s knack for dialogue means each era reads differently, and he has an enviable skill of identifying his characters most sympathetic traits. The result is the feel-good hit of the autumn, and a book which leaves you with a smile on your face. You can read our review here.
