Thomas Mullen’s sequel to 2015’s Darktown sees Negro officers Boggs and Smith back on the beat in Atlanta’s black quarter, battling petty criminals even as they battle the racism and hatred of their colleagues. Local Klan members are doing their best to keep African Americans out of traditionally white neighbourhoods, and they’re being joined by a group called the Lightning Men, who leave signs around town telling Negroes to get out – signs complete with SS-style lightning bolts.
