His new character is Renee Ballard, an LAPD detective consigned to the night shift after falling foul of the bureaucracy and politics of her department. She’s a talented detective frustrated by her lot, so when two cases pique her interest Ballard resolves to work them in her downtime, pushing aside her beloved surfing in a bid to do right by the victims.
