The Watcher

The Watcher, Ross ArmstrongThe initial premise of this psychological thriller by Ross Armstrong is a post-modern twist on Hitchcock’s 1954 film Rear Window. Lily Gullick is a bird watcher who also spies on her neighbours but her voyeuristic skills are tested when one of them is murdered. She investigates, charting their movements in her corner of London with the social backdrop and tension of deprivation and gentrification. The suspense mounts as Lily’s narrative crumbles and her behaviour becomes more erratic. The Watchers is a twisty and tense homage to Hitchcock that fits with the current vogue for domestic noir and unreliable narrators. Read our review here.
