After the death of their bullying, half-mad, religious zealot father, the three Jewett boys embark on a crime spree. It starts off on the border between Georgia and Alabama and takes them to one God-forsaken place after another as they head towards Canada. Will they redeem themselves – somehow – when they stop off in the town of Meade? Could they dine at the heavenly table in the next world? Or will their downward spiral of violence and misery lead to a very dark final demise? This is the grittiest of Southern Noir, with the harshness of rural life in the early 20th century laid bare.
