Oblivion

Oblivion200

As titles go, Arnaldur Indridason’s Oblivion is pretty downbeat, but this is an enthralling look at the younger days of the glum Icelandic Detective Erlendur. Fans of the mature Elendur will know that one of his chief fixations is about missing persons, and this is a strong element of the plotline here. Another is the love-hate relationship between native Icelanders and the American servicemen who staff the US air base at Keflavik. The enmity grows when Erlendur and Marion need access to the base because they think an Icelandic man was murdered there. Meanwhile, in a side-plot, Erlendur tries to find out about a teenage girl who went missing two decades prior. Read the full review here.
