The Axeman’s Jazz

the-axemans-jazz-200

Based on the true story of a series of killings in post-WWI New Orleans, this book is a heady mix of soulful music, savage murder and the unique atmosphere of The Big Easy. In one sense it is a period police procedural, but as Detective Lieutenant Michael Talbot and Luca d’Andrea, the disgraced cop whose job he has taken, try to track down the jazz-loving axeman, we get an intriguing account of a real-life crime and the search for the identity of the killer. Helping out Talbot and d’Andrea is none other than a young cornet player – Louis Armstrong. Andre’s review is here.
