I’ve written probably 50 or so murder ballads & crime songs, starting with my tribute to the murderess of the Scarsdale Diet Doc, “Ballad of Jean Harris,” and you can find on YouTube a good many clips of me performing such songs, and also the Skunks playing “Sister Ray,” which I must say, separates the men from the boys, as well as the drag queens from everybody else. I could go on, but my stuff is out there already… My new novel, GRAVE DIGGER BLUES, is also full of murder ballads.

It’s my favourite, anyhow.

Bootleg whiskey, drugs, murder, DEA choppers and sung by a former felon who appeared in The Wire. How could you miss it?

There are plenty of crime-related songs and we did have one or two Bob Dylan suggestions in our mix early on.
Unrelated to the 60s, one I thought of later on is Stars of CCTV – what a great name and theme for a records in these days of surveillance culture.
