You know how much we like our debossed, silver foil and spot-UV blood coloured lettering here on Crime Fiction Lover. Well the hardback’s dust jacket has all of that. The story inside sees Thorne ostracised by the rest of the force and back in uniform for his misdemeanours. Trouble is, he thinks the murder squad are missing a beat when a series of elderly people appear to be committing suicide. He thinks there’s a killer on the loose but his fears are dismissed by his colleagues. What’s Thorne to do but investigate the case off his own bat?
And this killer is a particularly bloody beast. The prologue offers a veritably blood-soaked two pages as victim one bleeds out in a bathtub, and according to the release the killer’s list of targets grows and grows as his hunt progresses.
The hardback also offers exclusive content, a bit like getting the DVD version of a film. This comes in the form of a 20-page interview with author Mark Billingham by James Kidd. The book comes out on 23 May at £16.99.
Billingham has twice won the Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year award, and has seen Thorne novels Sleepyhead and Scaredy Cat made into TV programmes for Sky 1.
