Fatal Tango tells the story of a German ballet dancer called Julietta. To get closer to the music and to fill her body with the rhythm, she decides to take up tango and meets the Argentine expert Damián. Well, as you might guess, they fall in love – their passion for dancing bringing them together. However Damián’s performances become increasingly improvised and bizarre.
Meanwhile, Julietta’s father grows jealous as his daughter seems so devoted to dancing and her new lover. Shockingly, Damián kidnaps and tortures the old man and then flees to Buenos Aires but Julietta’s father is cagey about what happened to him and why. She flies to Argentina to find her lover and in doing so begins to uncover the country’s dark and brutal past. In a unique twist, elements of Damián’s interpretation of the tango form clues in the mystery that Julietta unravels. For the non-dancer it’s an interesting view into another world filled with music, passion and dark political secrets, while for the tango afficionado the way the dance is interwoven with the plot might make it all the more engaging.
